PRODUCTION DESIGNER
WINTER SOLSTICE PROJECT
DIRECTED BY LURA MARTIN DESIGNED BY MAYZEY GREEN
REFERANCES
The winter solstices box of curiosities was a project started by Laura Martin, their idea was to repurpose two old cabinets and transform them into a storytelling box of curiosities. With Christmas underway, the director felt it was important to celebrate other cultural folk law and spread some of their teachings. In the hopes to divert a western audiences attention to Icelandic stories, the director pondered if the stories could be conveyed whilst embracing other traditional elements such as engraving and mechanisms.
My role was to illustrate their ideas for a group of makers who will have creative liberty with my designs. Here's a list showing my artistic process:
-
Initial Design meetings with the director to understand, the goal, vision, budget, audience, ext.
-
Moodboarding illustration style
-
Detailed Icelandic folk law research
-
Specific-illustration style practice
-
Weekly meetings with my director to show the progress of the design
-
Reworking sketches according to the directors notes
-
Collecting detailed measurements of the cabinets
-
Understanding what is accompanying the piece e.g a narrator, music...
-
Digital drawings using Adobe Photoshop
